The Los Angeles Clippers signed former Toronto Raptors guard Alvin Williams to a 10-day contract

I always thought this guy was under-rated and deserved a little more PT. A good-but-not-great distributor, but with low TOs, relatively low Usage for a PG, and decent shooting. Also, in his one big playoff run (2001) his numbers went up.

With all the hoopla surrounding the introduction (and now subsequent removal) of the new ball in the NBA this year, I decided to investigate what kind of effect, if any, it had on the players' ability to play the game.

Magic Coach Brian Hill was honored by the league as the Eastern Conference's coach of the month and C Dwight Howard as the East's player of the month, the NBA announced Friday. Hill, in his second stint as head coach of the Magic, led the team to a 12-4 record in November.

The Magic are having a stellar season so far, and it's nice to see them getting recognition for it, but when do you give credit to the coach and when do you give credit to one or more players? Also, has anyone ever investigated the frequency with which player-of-the-month awards are given to players who had a statistically superlative month?

Mavericks forward Josh Howard agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract extension Thursday through the 2010-11 season.

On the heels of Boris Diaw getting a 5-year, $45MM extension from the Suns, now Josh Howard gets a 4-year, $40MM deal too. For a guy who averaged 15 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists per game, averaging 10 million a year seems a little excessive. His PER of 19.3 is pretty nice, and he doesn't turn the ball over very much, but can you build a team around him like you could Dirk Nowitzki? Some might point to a steady increase in his scoring for his 3 years in the league, but if you look at his per-minute numbers, his steals, blocks, and rebounding have all gone down year-over-year. Not exactly what you'd want from a guy who most likely figures to be part of the supporting cast.
